For Chevron Oronite, a billion-dollar standalone entity of Chevron Corp., Ted researches and writes all of Focus Magazine, an in-house marketing communications publication aimed at uniting the company's 2,000-plus employees who are located all over the globe. Working closely with key executives and employees, Ted creates articles that communicate key messages, vital information and future plans. Printed in English and French, Focus has become a huge success at Chevron Oronite. He also has contracts with the State of California. His work there aims to help small and rural school districts around the state find their way through the state's complex financial and structural approval processes that result in modernized school facilities. Personable and outgoing, Ted achieves success by building relationships. He takes time with personnel to learn their business and critical issues and gets them to see it in simple steps. From that platform, an effective message can be built and extended to other employees, customers and potential clients. At Fogdog.com, Ted created and oversaw the implementation of editorial and marketing plans that created the most informative sporting goods site on the Internet. It was Fogdog's belief that informed customers made better choices, which in turn created customer trust and loyalty. It came down to Ted to make that vision a reality. With articles and community areas developed to foster relationships with consumers, Fogdog became a bright spot on the Internet wasteland. Ted's career began in journalism, and in 1988 he became an editor. He led a staff of five reporters in an award-winning enterprise. He left newspapers in 1994 to expand his career opportunities in magazines and travel. Those endeavors included getting Travel & Leisure Golf magazine off the ground, then shifting over to the ecommerce side as editorial director at Fogdog Sports. He also has written for major publications in the health care, educational and retail industries. He has built a successful freelance business in which he writes monthly columns for Baker Publishing of Colorado. He is an award-winning writer for Golf Digest, the golf industry's most popular and successful publication, and Golf Business. He has also written for PGATour.com and Nike.com. A graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in English, Ted is the father of two daughters and lives with wife Carol in the East Bay suburb of San Ramon. As the children get older, he finds it more and more difficult to pursue his passion of playing the world's great courses. | |
